Privacy Policy for DesiWave Radio
Last updated: September 16, 2026
DesiWave Radio does not require an account. Most of what the app remembers - your
favorite stations, recently played stations, listening/song history, alarms and app
settings - is stored only on your device and is never sent to us or linked to any identity.
This page lists everything that does leave your device, and why.
What we collect
- On your device only (never sent to us): favorite stations, recently
played stations, song/listening history, alarms, and app preferences (theme, language,
layout).
- Submit a Stream: if you submit a station, we send the stream URL and
basic technical details (detected format, content type, device model, app version) to our
backend, which emails it to us for review. We do not collect your name, email address, or
any other personal information as part of this.
- Feedback: if you submit feedback (a star rating and optional comment),
we store the rating, comment, app version, and basic device details (Android version,
manufacturer, model, language) you or your browser provides, plus a country code and a
one-way hash of your IP address used only to spot abuse. We do not store your raw IP
address, and nothing in this data is linked to your identity.
- Advertising: the app shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may
collect device identifiers (such as the advertising ID), general location, and other data
to show and measure ads, under Google's own policies. See
Google's Privacy Policy for details.
- Reliability counters: when a station's stream fails to play after
retrying, a lyrics lookup finds nothing, or the station list cannot be downloaded, the app
sends us a count of how often that happened, which station or service it was, and your app
version. This is how we find and remove dead stations. It covers only stations that
failed, never stations you listened to, and it contains no personal information.
- Crash and error reports: if the app crashes or hits an unexpected
error, it sends us the type of error, a short technical description with web addresses and
email addresses removed, the lines of code where it happened, your app version, and
whether it is a phone, TV, watch or car build. This is how we find and fix bugs. It contains
no personal information.
- Random identifier: reliability counters and crash reports are sent
with a random identifier generated on your device. It is not linked to you, your device,
your advertising ID or anything else. It is used only to cap how much one malfunctioning
copy of the app can send each day, and it is not stored with the reports.
- Where these reports go: reliability counters, crash reports, feedback
and station submissions are handled by our own small services hosted on
Cloudflare. Like any server,
Cloudflare sees the internet address your device connects from. Our services use it only
to limit how many requests one connection can make; apart from the hashed form used for
feedback (above), it is not stored.
- Google Firebase: the app uses these Google services to understand how
it is used and to keep it working. Each works under
Google's Firebase privacy terms.
- Google Analytics for Firebase records how the app is used, such as which
screens are opened and how long a session lasts, along with your device model, operating
system version, app version and approximate location (country or region, worked out from
your internet address). It uses an identifier created for this app only. We have turned
off its use of your advertising ID and its ad personalisation signals.
- Firebase Crashlytics sends crash reports (the error, where in the code it
happened, device model, operating system version and free memory) with an identifier for
this installation of the app.
- Firebase Performance Monitoring (phone app only) measures how quickly the app
starts, how smoothly screens draw, and how long network requests take, together with
device and app details.
- Firebase App Check asks Google Play whether the app talking to our services
is a genuine copy, so others cannot misuse them. It sends Google the app and device
details needed for that check, not anything you do in the app.
- Lyrics lookup: when you view or search for lyrics, the song title and
artist name are sent to LRCLIB, a free third-party lyrics
database, to find a match. No personal information is included.
- Casting: casting to a Chromecast or similar device uses Google's Cast
SDK to discover and connect to devices on your local network.
- Radio streams: playing a station connects your device directly to that
station's own streaming server, which is operated by the station, not by us.
What we don't collect
We do not require or collect your name, email address, phone number, or any account
credentials - DesiWave Radio has no account system. We do not sell your data, and apart from
the service providers named above we do not share it with anyone.
Data retention and deletion
Everything the app remembers is stored only on your device. Uninstalling the app
permanently deletes it, including the random identifier; a reinstall makes a new one.
On our side, crash reports and feedback are kept for as long as they help us fix problems
and improve the app. The day-by-day history of how often a crash happens is kept for 90 days,
and reliability counters are deleted automatically after three months. Google keeps Firebase
data under its own retention rules and our Firebase settings: Analytics event data for up to
14 months, and Crashlytics crash reports for 90 days.
None of this data is tied to you as an individual, so we cannot find or delete the records
that came from your device. You can reset the identifier Google Analytics uses by clearing
the app's data or reinstalling it. If you have a question about your data, contact us at the
address below.
Children
DesiWave Radio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect
personal information from children.
